District Highlights

The Saranac Central School District is primarily a residential community situated at the foot of the Adirondack Mountains along the Saranac River valley in northern New York. Neighbor to the City of Plattsburgh, the school district is located in the Towns of Saranac, Plattsburgh, Dannemora, Schuyler Falls, Beekmantown and Black Brook.

The District serves a student population of approximately 1,500 students and in 2006 consolidated to three school campuses, Saranac and Morrisonville Elementary and Saranac Middle/High School. Historically, the residents have consistently supported a complete range of high quality programs, services and activities for students.

The District's mission is "To provide all students the opportunity to receive quality instruction that will develop their ability to achieve high standards. To guarantee guidance and caring support that will help them learn to apply acquired knowledge to life situations and to become lifelong learners."

As the District celebrates its successes, we also look ahead in building upon the future. To this end, our long range plan continues to focus our efforts in striving toward excellence.

Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) is well established at the elementary level. Both elementary buildings have developed a behavioral expectations matrix. Assemblies are conducted to recognize students who successfully complete the matrix. This celebration is attended by the entire student body, faculty, staff, parents, and friends.

Response to Intervention (RTI) is established at the elementary level. A strong three-tiered approach to academic and behavioral support is in place. Meetings are conducted on a regular basis to ensure that students receive the interventions that are warranted.

The teacher retention rate is high throughout the District. Faculty members join the District and typically stay throughout their careers.

Music Program: The District boasts a strong music program. Every year students in grades 5-12 participate in a District-wide concert. Students also access special music-related opportunities such as P.E.A.K. (Parents, Educators, and Kids) in grades 4-5, New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA), and All County to name a few county-wide music opportunities.

Art Program: The District also celebrates the Arts with a District-wide art exhibit each spring. Student artwork in grades K-12 is selected for this special showing.

Community Support: The community is supportive of all of our educational programs. Volunteers assist in classrooms, at sporting events, with the music and art programs and drama productions.
