Saranac Central School District will not be providing meals throughout the summer. There are locations in our area that are currently providing summer meals. To find the location nearest to you please do one of the following:

St. Joseph’s soup kitchen will be providing hot meals every Thursday evening from 4-5pm. Their food bank is also open 9am-2pm every Tuesday. If you have any questions or need to set up a different call you can reach them at:

In order to continue to provide a variety of nutritious foods to our students within our delivered meals we may send home foods that need simple cooking and/ heating before eating. We will provide suggested instructions here and if you have any further questions please call our offices at (518) 565-5705.

Some of our food items will be sent home frozen and/or slightly frozen; please refrigerate Breakfast meal bags and Lunch bags upon arrival at home to ensure the safety and best quality of the foods received from school.

Chicken Patty on a WG Hamburger Bun
Heating Instructions for Chicken Patty:
In a Conventional Oven: Bake the Chicken Patty at 350 degrees F. for 10-15 minutes. Or until the Chicken is 165 degrees F.
Appliances may vary so adjust cooking times accordingly.
Monday, May 11:
Popcorn Chicken Smackers:
In Conventional Oven: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Place frozen chicken pieces in a single layer on an ungreased baking pan. Bake uncovered for 30 minutes.
Tater/Tots or French Fries:
In Conventional Oven: Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place tater tots or french fries in a single layer on a greased baking pan. Bake for 20 minutes.

The following will be the Meal Delivery Schedule for May:
Weeks of May 4 and 11: Meal Deliveries on Monday and Wednesday.
Week of May 18: Meal Deliveries on Monday (covers 3 days 18-20) and Thursday (covers 4 days May 21,22,25,26)
Week of May 25: Meal Delivery on Wednesday only May 27 (covers 3 days 27-29)
Beginning June 1 return to Monday and Wednesday deliveries.
Monday, April 27
We will be sending home Pre-cooked charbroiled frozen Hamburger Patties.
Cooking and Heating instructions for families:
Preheat your oven to 400 F. Place the precooked burger on a baking tray or in a baking dish, uncovered. Warm the burger for 5 minutes and then check the temperature with a meat thermometer. If the burger has not reached 175 F yet, place it back in the oven to continue cooking.
For frozen patty, microwave on high for 65-75 seconds or until hot (see cooking temperature to reach above). For refrigerated patty, reduce time to 30-40 seconds. Let stand 1 minute before eating.
Warm frozen patty over medium heat for 8-10 minutes or until hot (see cooking temperature to reach above), turning occasionally. For refrigerated patty, reduce time to 4-5 minutes.
Warm frozen patty over medium heat for 6-8 minutes or until hot (see cooking temperature to reach above), turning occasionally. For refrigerated patty, reduce time to 3-4 minutes.
Wednesday, April 22
Today’s Lunch includes a Toasted Turkey and Cheese Sandwich… We have already Toasted these in the oven and chilled them to send to you:
When your child(ren) receive this Sandwich you can re-heat it in the microwave, toast it to warm in a toaster oven, or place in your oven at 325 degrees F for about 5 minutes just to heat and melt the cheese. Enjoy!!!

Hot Dog (Reduced fat Turkey Frank) on bun will be sent home for Lunch
Boiling hot dogs is an easy way to prep hot dogs inside — and they're ready in just minutes. First, fill a medium-sized saucepan halfway with water and bring to a boil over high heat. Once it's boiling, add in as many dogs as you wish to eat. Let the hot dogs boil for about 5 minutes until plump
Consider warming the buns in the microwave.
1. Open the bun and place it face-down on a paper towel. A plate is OK but is not necessary.
2. Wrap the bun in the paper towel or place a second on top.
3. Microwave on high for 10-15 seconds. Check for a warm, soft texture.
4. Don't microwave the bun with the hot dog in it.
Stovetop: Set a pot of water on the stovetop and fill it with about a quarter-inch of water. When your steam basket is set inside the pot, the water level should be below the bottom of the basket. Bring the water to a boil, then set the buns inside the basket and cover the pot for about 30 seconds.

Suggested heating instructions for Breaded Mozzarella Cheese Sticks:
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Place frozen mozzarella sticks in a single layer on a baking sheet. Heat at 400 degrees F for 7 minutes. For best results, turn sticks over after the first 3-1/2 minutes of heating. Allow cheese sticks to stand for 1 minute before consuming.
